The point of these assignments is to convince a stakeholder to support a legislative change. Any subject matter should be meaningful, relevant, relate to advance practice and impact health care.
Focus on topics that are specific and relevant to health care and advanced nursing practice by:
-Supporting a current pending bill in the Florida legislature.
-Asking for an amendment to a current Florida statute.
-Focusing on specific issues related to advanced practice such as the ability to write DNR orders, initiate the Baker Act, or provide APN care in the home.
-Developing or supporting a public program to improve population health at the state level.
-Revisiting a bill the was not successful (died) or tabled and ask for reconsideration and resubmission.
-Asking to introduce a bill or statute that was successful in another state to the Florida legislature.
A two-page Policy Brief paper is to be created. The paper is to contain a title page and a reference page (not counted toward the two page maximum). It should follow basic APA 7th edition formatting, however the introduction and summary sections of a typical APA paper are omitted in the Policy Brief paper. The brief should be clear, concise, and employ evidence. The information should be organized effectively with the use of headings.
