The average hospital bill for a newborn with a low birth weight is anticipated to be $27,200, and for a newborn with a very low birth weight, it is estimated to be $76,700, as opposed to $3,200 for a newborn of normal weight. From 40% in the 1960s to 15% now, the proportion of infants who survive to adulthood with disabilities has reduced.
