This assignment is a 750-word formal critical analytical response to a piece of theatre (you have options!). You will make a choice from below and review the performance/presentation and
use at least THREE different course readings as a way to justify/support your analysis. I am less
interested perhaps in whether it was pre-recorded or live broadcast, and more about how the
piece of art – in the choices made – advance or push up against some of the themes discussed in the course. The goal here is to connect the ideas of the performance/presentation, to the
foundational readings (at least THREE) in the course, and your own experience (as an educator
and/or someone who engages/receives the arts). This assignment scaffolds/builds upon your
soul story but in a focused way – using a piece of art in different mediums.
You can pick your entry point: While the entry point can be the presentation/performance as a
whole, you may also choose a particular sliver – it can also be about the visual. To this point, we
have discussed art as more than just aesthetic. We have discussed it as a means for cultural
production, social change, and moved beyond the traditional notions of what constitutes
learning space. We have wrestled with notions of representation, ethics of care, anti-racism,
access and accessibility
