THIS IS WHAT THE ASSIGNMENT IS ABOUT? ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS BELOW.
Select two contingency models from the literature. Critique both models for their applicability and effectiveness within your organization. How are both contingency models of leadership manifested in your organization? What do they look like? Give specific examples. Are the leadership contingency models getting the results you think they should? Specifically, what leadership metrics/results are important for you to measure or keep track of? In other words, are the models you selected being applied effectively and getting the outcomes and level of employee performance you think they’re capable of achieving?
The premise of contingency models of leadership state that, “Leadership is contingent upon blank.” You need to fill in the blank. In other words, virtually anything could contribute to the effectiveness of leadership; it’s contingent upon a lot of things.
The situation or context, relationship with subordinates, budgets, locale, age, gender, experience, and a multitude of other factors, according to contingency models, will affect leadership. This week, you will be introduced to several different contingency models and begin exploring various contingencies and their relationship with effective leadership.
You’ve probably already been exposed to several contingency models or you’re aware of them and just didn’t know it. For example, one contingency model includes a leadership style that many of you have heard of. It’s called, micromanaging. When used in the right context, micromanaging is a great leadership style. In the wrong context…well…you know what happens. We’ll explore some more about what that might look like.

Use headings to organize your papers. Graduate students need to organize their work so that it makes sense. I noticed that some of you tried using the APA Sample Student Paper this week. The paper provides examples of different levels of headings. However, you should make your headings work for you. Structure your papers like you would in outline. The main topics are first level headings. Subtopics are second-level headings, etc.
Review APA! If you’re still having trouble with APA formatting, contact me. There are plenty of additional resources in the APA Toolbox. The most important is probably the Student Sample Paper. Compare your formatting to the sample paper. Please make sure that you read the assignment carefully. Many of you provided very good background information on transformational leadership this week, but you failed to effectively relate this information back to examples of a specific team that you had in mind and the specific behaviors of transformational leadership. If you have any questions about expectations for an assignment, do not hesitate to contact me. I am more than happy to talk with you if you need help.
