Exam Content
Taking time to reflect on your experience in the Interpersonal Group session will foster your awareness and integration of principle concepts related to group theory and leadership skills; therefore, after each group session, you will complete a written analysis. Your instructor will assess your ability to explain how your group is developing over the duration of the course as well as your ability to identify and apply group leadership concepts addressed in your textbook and handouts. Write a 1–2-page reflection on your Interpersonal Group VII session. Note: In this final week of class, you will also complete a second reflection on the overall interpersonal group experience.
Part 1: Group VII Session Reflection
General Guidelines:
Group counselors must maintain objectivity about the groups they lead; therefore, be sure to remain objective as you write your analysis.
Describe your group in the introductory paragraph only.
Describe the therapeutic process(es) you observe in the group session. This should be the primary focus of your analysis.
Use the prompts below to guide your thinking:
• How are relationships within the group changing or evolving?
• How do group members interact with the facilitator?
• How do group members interact with each other?
• What power issues are present in the group?
• How is conflict addressed or avoided?
• What roles are implemented by the leaders?
• What member roles do group members assume?
• Which therapeutic factors are evident?
Part 2: Overall Experience Reflection
Write a 1-page reflection about the overall interpersonal group experience. In your reflection, be sure to Describe patterns and themes you observed through the group experience.
Explain what you learned about being a group member. Be sure to include events, thoughts, feelings, experiences, and/or ideas that surprised you during the sessions.
Explain what you learned about working with people in groups. Think about concepts from class content as you respond to this prompt (e.g., stages of development, leadership functions, member roles).
Cite a minimum of 2 academic sources to support your reflection.
Format your assignment according to APA guidelines.
