For this milestone, due in Module One, you will identify your topic for the final project. These topics are timely age-related illnesses or conditions that highlight the interplay between biological, social, and environmental factors affecting individuals, families, and populations (communities).

For this milestone, choose from among the following topics that affect the subpopulation of older Americans: HIV/AIDS, hip fracture, heart disease (cardiovascular disease), Alzheimer’s disease, depression, or diabetes (Type II). Then, address the following critical elements:
Factors/Approach: Identify the biological, social, and environmental factors of this topic and how you will approach it (e.g., will you focus only on older women with heart disease, or the population of nursing-home dwelling older adults with depression?).
Resource: Identify at least one peer-reviewed resource that will provide background on the topic you have chosen, and briefly summarize the information provided by this resource. (Keep in mind that for the next milestone, due in Module Three, you will be tasked with preparing a full literature review for your final project.)
Milestone One should be submitted in the form of a 1–2 paragraph narrative that introduces and discusses the topic and how you will approach your study of it. Instructor feedback on this milestone should be incorporated into your next milestones and into the final project.
What to Submit
Milestone One should be 1–2 paragraphs in length, with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, and one-inch margins. It should follow the latest edition of the APA manual for formatting and citations.
Please note that the grading rubric for this milestone submission is not identical to that of the final project. The Final Project Rubric will include an additional “Exemplary” category that provides guidance as to how you can go above and beyond “Proficient” in your final submission.
