Ready to think about testing another hypothesis? Here you go: imagine you have been asked to come up with a way to test the hypothesis that “Men wearing ties are perceived to be more competent than men not wearing ties.” (PLEASE NOTE: in reality, as far as your instructor knows, there is no evidence for that.)
Come up with preliminary designs for three studies of different types that could be conducted to test that hypothesis. At least one of those must come from group A, and at least one must come from group B:
GROUP A
Laboratory experiment
Field experiment
Virtual Reality study
GROUP B
Archival study
Questionnaire/correlational study
Obviously, given the length of the paper, you won’t be able to go into very much detail. Just write enough so that (1) it’s clear that your study would be of the type you say it is (e.g., lab experiment, archival study, etc.), (2) it’s clear what you would measure, and (3) it’s clear how you are operationaling your variables.
Papers should be approximately 2 pages in length,
