The purpose of this mastery assignment is to provide the opportunity for you to further develop your research skills of which the concept papers have helped you prepare. You are also able to further develop your critical thinking skills, your writing effectiveness related to healthcare fiscal management, and demonstrate your understanding of healthcare fiscal management and its application to the healthcare industry. Your research project will be based on the following case scenario:
Scenario: You are the CEO of a mid-sized, not-for-profit community hospital which is the sole hospital in the community. The only competition for your facility within the community is a free-standing physician-owned imaging center. The physician who owns the center has decided to retire from medicine and is contemplating selling the service to help fund his retirement. Your hospital has an opportunity to purchase this center. How do you proceed? These are just a few of the blatant variables that need to be processed in a purchase decision. There are other variables that will need to be considered. You will have to analyze the financial operations of the center including the evaluation of future financial viability. You will need to establish a purchase price so that an offer can be made, examine any and all tax ramifications, and explore potential funding mechanisms for the purchase. Task: From this scenario you will prepare a written purchase proposal for your Board of Trustees that identifies and details the research and various steps taken to make a purchase decision. You will be responsible for assigning values to the various variables but those values must be realistic. Keep in mind that the Board members may not have experience with this topic and education will be required. Thesis Statement: In this purchase proposal, you will observe that the decision to acquire the free-standing imaging center has been meticulously strategized. The assessment of the imaging center’s future financial sustainability, determination of a reasonable purchase price, evaluation of potential tax implications, exploration of funding options, and consideration of the impact on the existing workforce have all been thoroughly examined.
