Post you will reply to is here: It is essential to begin by defining the concept before moving on to a discussion of the applications of qualitative research within the context of health care. When there is little known about a phenomenon, or when there is a possibility that the existing knowledge or theories about a subject may be prejudiced, qualitative research is carried out. In an article read by Cypress (2019), the researcher aims to identify and develop rich, and context bound information and understanding of the poorly understood phenomenon.For physicians, qualitative research provides advice in deciding how the findings of qualitative studies might be applied to patients. Qualitative research may be used for a number of different objectives for clinicians it provides guidance in deciding how findings of qualitative studies can be applied to patients. According to Melynk and Fineout-Overholt (2015), qualitative research may help clinicians understand clinical phenomena with emphasis of understanding the experiences and values of patients.
The primary goal of qualitative research is to investigate why people think or behave in the way that they do and how they learn to grasp the complexities of their own thoughts and actions throughout their lives (Denny and Weckesser, 2018).Different reporting formats and qualitative research methods can be used with this type of research design. Traditional qualitative research methods such as ethnography, grounded theory, phenomenology, and hermeneutics are often utilized by researchers in the field of health care services.According to Melynk and Fineout-Overholt (2015), the study of phenomena through the lens of the culture of a social group is what ethnography is all about. Through a better cultural knowledge, practitioners of healthcare and other healthcare professionals are provided with a deeper comprehension of the answers to specific research questions. The goal of grounded theory is to generate a theory about how people deal with life situations this theory is to be founded on empirical data that defines the process in which individuals move through experiences over the course of time. Phenomenology is the study of essences, which is accomplished by gaining an understanding of them via the retelling of personal experiences. The understanding of the purpose of life that lies outside of a person’s conscious consciousness comes from their “lived experiences.” Hermeneutics, which is based on the historical theory and method of interpretation awareness (Melynk & Fineout-Overholt, 2015).
Qualitative research would need to be done when research is done in reference to identify barriers/obstacles like a study done to determine if patients decide to get preventive screening for cancer or not due to limited resources in a rural area Rolfe et al., (2018) states the process of obtaining data that is numerical and then analyzing it is what is known as quantitative research. It is possible to recognize trends, develop hypotheses, and generalize the findings of this research method to broader populations through its use. Quantitative research can be utilized in my work by using the cancer registry data to see the number/ collects data on all caner cases diagnosed or treated (Jiang et al., 2018).
As experts in the healthcare industry, it is our responsibility to be aware of everything that could stand in the way of our patients receiving high quality results. The Bible states that, “My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding—indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God”(New International Version, New International Version Bible, 1978/2011, Proverbs 2:1-5).
