Instructions: Choose ONE of the following case studies: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder OR Panic Disorder with Agoraphobia (In-text citation for both case studies is: Oltmanns, Neale & Davison, 2003), read it and answer the following questions:
What diagnosis is given to the client (not a trick question; it’s to identify the disorder you chose)?
What are the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for this disorder (see below for attachments with the DSM-5 criteria)? Put the criteria in your own words and be sure to cite appropriately using the in-text citation of (American Psychiatric Association, 2013)?Focus on Criteria A & B for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder; Focus on Criteria A & B for Panic Disorder (in other words just focus on the symptoms of Panic Disorder; do not worry about the symptoms for Agoraphobia).
Describe any factors in the client’s background that might predispose him or her to this disorder (in other words, are there any issues from when the client was younger that might put them at risk for the disorder but not specifically cause it when they were younger?).
Describe any symptoms in the case study that support the diagnosis. You can include direct quotes or any other behaviors described.
What proximal or triggering factors contributed to the development of this disorder (i.e., were there any events that appeared to directly precede the onset of the client’s symptoms)?
Remember to appropriately cite information that is not common knowledge or your personal opinion using in-text citations [for the case study, you can use the in-text citation (Oltmanns, Neale & Davison, 2003) and for DSM criteria cite (American Psychiatric Association, 2013); consult the syllabus for ways to reference other sources].
