HELLO!!! THIS IS THE SECOND TIME, I’M PAYING AGAIN BECAUSE THE FIRST WRITER DID IT UNCORRECTLY. I need it asap otherwise I get a zero!!!
THIS IS THE ASSIGNMENT:
For this week’s discussion, we will be looking at local or national response protocols that were initiated during a critical incident, and you will choose your topic!
Search reputable local and national media for a man-made disaster to discuss.
Search for critical instances such as: hostage situations, mass shootings, multiple-vehicle or mass transit accidents with multiple critical injuries, and disease outbreaks.
In your initial post, describe the incident and address the following:
Determine the incident type and explain your reasoning.
What resources were deployed for this incident?
What protocols were implemented successfully, and which were unsuccessful?
Discuss way to improve the response to this type of incident in the future.
Support your answer with evidence. Please provide a working link to your story source.
EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE STUDENT’S REPLY TO THE DISCUSSION AND GOT A GOOD GRADE. For this week’s discussion post, I chose to talk about the water treatment plant contamination in Milwaukee in 1993 which led to a disease outbreak. In 1993, a water treatment plant in Milwaukee was contaminated with a parasite called cryptosporidium, which causes the cryptosporidiosis infection (Robinson, 2023). The outbreak caused 25% of Milwaukee’s population to fall ill, which comes out to over 400,000 people and 69 of these people died from the cryptosporidiosis infection (MacKenzie et al., n.d.). The declaration of the this event as a mass contamination or disease outbreak was delayed despite the overwhelming amount of reports of symptoms (diarrhea, dehydration, abdominal pain, weight loss, nausea, etc.) widely spread throughout Milwaukee because physicians were diagnosing it as viral gastroenteritis without any further investigation (MacKenzie et al., n.d.). This was a major setback of course, and was not a great way to handle the influx of sick patients being seen during the time of the outbreak. Running tests for patients with these symptoms should include testing for cryptosporidiosis, just like it would include salmonella. This could identify an outbreak sooner rather than later, and also give an opportunity to educate patients on this disease. After the outbreak, the Milwaukee Water Works put $508 million dollars into their infrastructure ensuring safe water for the public, and the water is also now regulated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (Water Quality, n.d.).
