The first module of this course focuses on the history of nursing to offer a good understanding of nursing past before we discuss current trends and issues in the upcoming modules. The history of nursing is vast and goes as far back as ancient times with a plethora of stories covering nurturing and healing of the sick, hardships and heroism, caring and compassion, education and leadership…all leading to the professional nurse of today. Students in this module will identify and discuss important aspects of our nursing history as well as view the importance of the expansion of nursing into the development of professional organizations.
Discuss the current public image of nursing and how events in history have formed that image.
