On pages 78-79, you will read about a number of studies dating from 2000 to 2009 which have found that Africentric values are positively correlated with African American adolescents abstaining from substance use. Our study was conducted in 2017. Do you feel that in the past decade or so that Africentric values are less endorsed OR are they are less understood by young African Americans?
Only one of the study’s hypotheses was supported in the findings–which one was it? Discuss how and why ethnic identity exploration may be an important variable to study further in low-income African American adolescent girls.
Some of the girls in our study were first or second-generation African immigrants. Could this have impacted our study’s findings? Yes or no and how, in your opinion?
