Answer Case Study Questions:
1. Investigate the ideal progression of this patient through the healthcare system in which he is being treated? (HINT: think about each step in his treatment plan after surgery)
2. Explore/examine at least one aspect of this patient’s treatment that would fall under the responsibility of each of the following Allied Health professionals – add any missing professionals that may be involved in patient care.
• MD (Neurologist, Internists, PCP, Cardiologists, etc)
• Nurse
• OT
• PT
• ST
• Pharmacist
• Rehab staff
3. Describe one aspect of this patient’s care that could overlap between 2 different professions. Imagine one conflict that may arise and recommend a solution.
4. Analyze what additional services the patient & family may require and the role each would play in promoting patient health and recovery. (HINT: Home health supplies & Social Services, etc – see services listed above).
5. Critique factors that may limit this patient’s care (e.g. payment, social support systems, transportation, logistical considerations) – choose one of the limiting factors and determine what a nurse could do as a part of the medical team to help the patient receive the best care possible given the limitation.
