Welcome to Week 4.
WU requires students to address an assigned case scenario within 1-2 pages for week 4.
-continue to follow the example of the purpose statement that was provided for the first paper assignment for structure and guidance for future paper assignments, and note the format provided will be the only one accepted for this assignment.
-ensure you are adhering to APA 7th edition guidelines and not the 6th edition. Minor changes are different between APA 6th edition and APA 7th edition. With several years of teaching for WU, the university has adopted APA 7th edition several semesters ago. -ensure your title page reflects WU requirement for written assignments. An example has been provided in the welcome to week 2 class announcement. Or please go back to the first paper assignment if need be since I provided positive feedback. Keep in mind WU grading rubric includes the title page for grading and no sense to loose points unnecessarily.
-further clarification for primary sources of reference can be found in the course syllabus. Do not include the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Mayo Clinic or Cleveland Clinic. Primary sources include clinical research in support of evidence-based medicine.
-I will especially looking for a minimum of 2 primary source of reference and in addition, the required textbook as a cited reference for the remaining 3 paper assignments.
-I will continue to cross check cited references for accuracy and relevancy to clinical practice. If content reflects misrepresentation of a cited reference the content will not be accepted. Please refer to the course syllabus for content related to academic integrity. On a side note, one paper is being evaluated for its authenticity. Also note the percentage of safe assignment should be minimal.
-ensure you are addressing each component of WU grading rubric to allow maximum points earned. For example, if the grading rubric requires research, I will be specifically looking for content related to a clinical research trial and how the research correlates with WU learning objective(s). -If the grading rubric requires research, I will be specifically looking for a reference reflective of clinical research. One might consider the following to include in their paper assignment. According to …….(year of publication within 6 years), the aim of their research was to …….In conclusion, the outcome supports…..etc.. Being aware of this and the relationship to the assigned case scenario…………… include how. This will be an opportunity to evaluate contents for critical thinking. Refrain from using direct quotes to a minimum as the use of direct quotes dose not demonstrate the writers understanding to be determined in their own words.
Start with a 1-2 sentence introduction. Followed by stating the purpose. Kindly note the grading rubric specifically states purpose of the paper and not the aim. USE THIS PURPOSE STATEMENT AS THIS IS THE ONLY PURPOSE STATEMENT THAT WILL BE ACCEPTED:
Start with a 1-2 sentence introduction of the topic followed by typing out the following: The purpose this paper will be to address cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary pathophysiological process. In addition, highlight racial/ethnic variables impacting physiological functioning. Lastly, discuss how these processes interact to affect the patient. Note each learning objective has its own sentence.
Per APA, subject headings are not to be in sentence structure. Ensure you bold each subject heading according to APA guidelines. Consider including the following subject headings for your second paper. Note capitalization of key letters for key words and that each subject heading is in bold font and not sentence structure.
Introduction
Cardiovascular and Cardiopulmonary Pathophysiologic Process Resulting in Presenting Symptoms (content should reflect the maladaptive physiological response reflective of advanced pathophysiology)
Racial/Ethnic Variables Impacting Physiological Functioning
Processes that Interact to Affect the Patient
Conclusion
Conclusion- should reflect the take-home message for the reader which highlights content from each bullet point. Kindly note, this dose not include copying and pasting identical content but rather what you want the reader to consider as the most important concept from each subject heading. A conclusion that contains intext citation will not be accepted. No need to include generalized content in a conclusion that is concise. Assigned Case Scenario
A 55-year-old high school teacher begins experiencing a cough after a parent-teachers conference. Initially it was a mild cough and the teacher thought nothing of it since he had a history of asthma. As he was driving home, the cough became more intense, and he began experiencing chest tightness. He used his rescue inhaler as usual but did not get any relief. Minutes later he began experiencing chest pain, unlike the tightness that he experienced with his asthma. He began to sweat profusely, experience light-headedness and difficulty breathing. He attempted to pull into a park but passed out and struck the curve causing his vehicle to come to a stop. A passerby saw the incident and called 9-1-1. On the scene, the paramedic found the man unconscious. His EKG revealed ST segment elevation in the anterior leads (V3 and V4), his pulse was shallow, and respirations were 10 breaths/min. Upon arrival to the ER, a troponin level was 13ng/l and his CK level was 265 U/L.
Spell out all abbreviations and incorporate the abbreviations in subsequent content.
Discuss the maladaptive physiological response to each presenting sign and symptoms. Simply restating the signs and symptoms has already been provided in WU case scenario will not offer an opportunity to maximize points. Consider content reflective of advanced pathophysiology.
