Genetics Project I: Pick a genetic disorder that is of interest to you (5 points)
PURPOSE
This is the first part of a five-part, semester long project to identify, diagnose, and treat a genetic disorder that you find interesting. The goal of this activity is for you to do a little research to select a genetic disorder of interest.
Genetics Project I must be completed individually. The completed assignment must be submitted no later than Monday, February 20 by 7:00 pm EST.
Skills
You will use the following skills to help you select a genetic disorder:
• Identifying reliable scientific sources that provide information about genetic disorders
• Communicating scientific information that describes a genetic disorder
Knowledge
You will gain the following knowledge:
• Evaluating scientific information to pick a genetic disorder
• Citing scientific sources using the American Medical Association (AMA) citation style
TASK
Search the internet to discover a genetic disorder that you find interesting. Through the search process, you should uncover information about the genetic disorder including its scientific name, symptoms, and current treatments. You must cite your sources using the AMA citation style. At least five sources are required, and these can include websites, scientific journal articles, news articles, books, and videos.
CRITERIA FOR SUCCESS
Your completed submission should include all the required information, and your references should be cited using AMA citation style.
